31 shin (tooth)

Shin means tooth, and the sharpness of this path is striking. Shin connects Hod's world of ideal forms with Malkuth's inert physical manifestation. It teaches the relationship between ambition and reality, the path of realization, the truly human ability to change and be changed by the world. Shin is the mother letter of Fire, and fire may be the strongest possible symbol of technology. The taming of fire was a milestone in the evolution of human civilization. The myth tells us that the our race was given Fire by Prometheus, who stole it from Hephaistos (Vulcan). The name Prometheus means 'forethought', referring to the aim of any qabalistic engineer: To express new spiritual insight on the physical plane, the sooner the better. However, the movements of Malkuth, the great maintainer, change only slowly; "each in an orbit convenient for it". The progress of our civilization and technology as well as our personal ives is a process of evolution, not revolution: New ideas must win acceptance and survive the present in order to become dominant in the future. And new ideas depart from the old. We are dependent on the aeons before us, our culture, our family, previous generations and incarnations. As said by W.Faulkner: "The past isn't dead, it isn't even past yet". Shin is the Perpetual Inteligence, the path on which to access it all. The tarot trump "The Aeon" is called Judgment in most tarot packs. The present is judged by the time to come, but new ideas are also judged by existing matters - and changed. The fire of Shin is a double transformation, a double rebirth through fire: Not only matter but also the mind evolves through this process of realization. Therefore, don't be impatient with the world, be prepared to change too.
