17 zain (sword)

The path of Zain links the primordial womb of Binah with the state of personal incarnation in Tiphareth. This path teaches the experience of any pair of twins, that we are all one and individual souls at the same time. Zain means 'sword': "The Flaming Angel guards the entry into the Garden of Eden with a sword, the sword of Spirit" (Genesis 3:24). The sword sacrifices the individuality of the soul at the gate of Eden, or through Abyss before the Supernal Triangle. In the opposite direction, Spirit divides itself by the sword in order to manifest. Manifestation is dual, essence is singular. The message of Zain is, that if we look deep within, we are all the same. Therefore we cannot but meet ourselves through others. However, the components that we essentially have in common may still be hidden in our subconscious. Therefore, the sword of Zain simultaniously catalyzes the cooperation among us and between the conscious and subconscious domain. In the tarot card 'The Lovers', this duality is symbolized by the marriage between a man (sun/conscious) and a woman (moon/unconscious), supported by the heavenly twins.
