13 gimel (camel)

Gimel is the path which is energizing the entire Pillar of Equilibrium. It is the material of consciousness that connects the outpouring energy of Kether with the balancing intuitions of Tiphareth. The imprints into this watery material contain the memory of the entire cosmos. Therefore, Gimel is the gate to the inner all-knowing self, the inner mysteries behind any religion. It is the backbone of the Tree of Life. Gimel is "that which brings forth the All but retains its virginity (...) in other words, whose creativeness does not involve it in the life of its creation, but which remains apart and behind as the basis of manifestation" (Fortune;148). Virgin Mary is a symbol of this path, the direct channel between spirit and the individual soul, which was a vehicle for the physical incarnation of Christ. Gimel means 'camel', a self-sufficient animal that travels unfatiguable for days across the desert. On this path, the mystic must cross the Abyss from the pure intuitive light of Tiphareth into the darkness of pure consciousness which eventually leads to union with God in Kether. St. John of the Cross has described this experience in terms of a "Dark Night of The Soul". Only through contact with Gimel's "Essence of Glory" will the mystic succeed.
