29 qoph (back of the head)

Qoph is the path linking Netzach's collective forms of nature and culture with the inert physical vehicle of Malkuth. It is the path of our physical heritage steming from biological evolution and from the soul's specific organization of the body during incarnation. Qoph is named the Corporeal Inteligence, indicating that the automatisms of the body posess intelligence and are changeable. Even though they are transmitted through the blood, they are still gateways to the divine. The letter Qoph itself means "back of the head", because this heritage of automatisms is outside the reach of our everyday consciousness. It is stored as our apparently dark and cruel, instinctual nature at the very bottom of the brain. This is highly deceptive. The letter Qoph also refers to sleep, and any sleeper will eventually become awake. New light may be born out of the greatest darkness, if we are ready. The tarot trump associated with Qoph is The Moon (see below). Its symbolism includes physical birth and death, the cycles of the moon, and the double helix of DNA. The jackal god Anubis represents in Egyptian mythology the border between the visible and invisible world, he weighs the soul of the dead and is equally watchful by day and by night. When Seth had killed Osiris, it was Anubis who gathered the parts of his body across Egypt to facilitate his resurrection. He is our most helpful guide when exploring this underworld.
